We were immediately struck by the creativity and inventiveness of David’s photos of the Sign, which mix interesting angles and eye-popping digital manipulation with classic Los Angeles icons and texts.
About ten years ago, David purchased one of the original Hollywoodland homes and became fascinated by the Sign and its history. This fascination turned to obsession when he started taking photographs of it.
David says: “It’s still so strange to me that a sign consisting of of nine tall metal letters sitting on a hillside has become an icon for the dream world that Hollywood is. Inevitably when I’m out walking in the neighborhood, a car stops and the tourists inside ask directions to The Sign. They want to get as close as possible to that dream. Don’t we all…”
