Every year in July, we get a slew of requests from reporters wanting to cover the Sign’s birthday. In truth, we have no idea the specific day the Hollywood Sign was unveiled (remember it was a billboard back in the day so not very newsworthy), although through extensive research, we do know it was erected in 1923. So wish it a happy anniversary not a happy birthday!

Griffith Park celebrated its 120 year anniversary this December with an evening full of activities including a Sierra Club night hike.

The Griffith Observatory shuttle phase II is underway. The shuttle will provide access to Hollywood Sign viewpoints and hiking trails to people who choose not to drive inside Griffith Park. Follow all the news on the ongoing shuttle here.

The Hollywood Sign sits within Griffith Park and access to the hiking trails around the Sign are only available during Griffith Park hours. The park is open from sunrise to sunset so as the days get shorter, the park will be closing earlier. Plan accordingly!
