Sunset Hollywood Ranch is a historic horseback riding ranch located under the iconic Hollywood Sign. Established in 1929, the ranch has a long track record of offering spectacular rides showcasing the natural beauty of the Los Angeles area.

The ranch offers a variety of horseback riding experiences, from one-hour trail rides to two-hour evening tours. These tours offer the perfect way to slow down and escape the hustle and bustle of Hollywood.

Sunset Ranch also makes a great venue for kid's parties, where the littlest visitors will receive a 30-minute group lesson followed by a one-hour tour. And if you're looking for a unique wedding proposal opportunity, the ranch offers two-hour private rides to the top of Mt. Hollywood, where you can pop the question among a backdrop of incredible scenery.

Whether a local or a visitor, horseback riding at Sunset Ranch is a must-do activity. So saddle up, and enjoy a ride through one of LA's most beloved landmarks.

Mulholland Trail Tour

Touring the Sign with horses

Nestled in the hills of Griffith Park, Sunset Ranch Hollywood offers breathtaking views of Los Angeles on this one-hour guided trail ride. The Mulholland Trail Tour allows riders to see the Hollywood Sign, Downtown Los Angeles, and the Griffith Observatory all in one ride.

This daytime-only tour is offered daily between 9 AM and 3 PM. Tickets for this tour are slightly more pricey on weekends, so be sure to book your tour for Monday through Friday if you're looking for extra savings. The ranch may accommodate walk-ins for this tour, but it's always best to make a reservation at least one day in advance to ensure a spot on the tour.

For those looking for a more challenging ride, the Mt. Hollywood Trail Tour offers a two-hour guided trek to the top of one of LA's most iconic peaks. Once at the top, riders can soak in astonishing 360º views of the San Fernando Valley, San Gabriel Valley, and Los Angeles basin. There's no better place in Hollywood to get ocean and mountain views like these.

The Mt. Hollywood Trail Tour can be held in the daytime or evening. Evening tours are available by reservation only between Sunday and Friday, with tours beginning at 4 PM, 4:30 PM, or 5 PM. Day tours on Mt. Hollywood are held on weekdays (Monday through Friday) only from 9 AM to 2 PM.

General Tour Guidelines

Sunset Hollywood Ranch

While there are no requirements for attire, Sunset Hollywood Ranch strongly encourages visitors to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes with small heels for safety and comfort. Helmets are mandatory for all riders and will be provided by the ranch free of charge. Visitors are welcome to bring their own helmets, but they must be special riding helmets as bicycle helmets are not allowed.

Riders must be eight years or older, and an adult must accompany all riders under 18. The weight limit for riders is 240 pounds, and the ranch discourages pregnant visitors who have recently had surgery or have an injury to the neck, back, hip, knee, or foot from riding. Additionally, because the horses instinctively walk near the edges of steep hills on the tours to better watch their surroundings, the ranch does not recommend a tour to those with a severe fear of heights.

You will surely be a spectacular time if you meet the basic requirements to ride at the ranch. As one of the top things to do at Griffith Park, the horseback riding tours at Sunset Ranch is an unforgettable way to explore the natural wonders of Southern California.
