As the world's capital for magic and spooky whimsy, Hollywood is the perfect place to enjoy some fall thrills. Several popular attractions throughout the Los Angeles area host fun fall-themed and Halloween events. Here's your look at five things to do in fall near Hollywood!

Get Tickets to Movie Screenings at Hollywood Forever Cemetery

Movie Screenings at Hollywood Forever Cemetery

Calling all horror fans! During October, Cinespia hosts screenings of classic horror flicks at the famed Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Selections can include everything from "Coraline" to "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre." You'll need to get tickets online ahead of time for the showing of your choice.

Experience Halloween Horror Nights

It doesn't get better than this when looking for things to do in the fall near Hollywood. Each year, Universal Studios puts on Southern California's scariest Halloween event. Guests can enjoy rides, drinks, food, and live performances during the park's extended hours. The highlight of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal is a collection of movie-themed haunted houses. Keep in mind that tickets for this event are sold separately from park tickets. VIP tours that bring you behind the scenes of the event are also available for true horror fans.

Hike to the Hollywood Sign

There's nothing like a fall hike up the Mount Hollywood Trail (easy), Brush Canyon Trail (easy), or Cahuenga Peak Trail (challenging). Trails leading to the Hollywood Sign are open during Griffith Park hours 365 days a year. While Los Angeles doesn't necessarily have the foliage that you see in other parts of the country, the crisper air and clear skies will give the sensation of fall magic brushing over your shoulders. Of course, you will be looking out over the city where many of your favorite Halloween movies were written or filmed.

Explore Los Angeles Haunted Hayride

The world-famous Los Angeles Haunted Hayride is one of the most terrifying things you can do in Hollywood this fall! This isn't the quaint and cheerful hayride experience you've had at a local farm. Los Angeles Haunted Hayride offers a terrifyingly real experience where the walls around you shake in fear and chaos. The ultra-professional production you see and feel all around you is created by industry professionals. There's typically a collaboration with a major celebrity behind some of the creativity! For example, Janelle Monáe frequently hosts a one-of-a-kind Halloween party that leads visitors into a world of ghostly encounters. Be sure to get your tickets ahead of time for this in-demand event.

Visit the L.A. Zoo

LA Zoo - meerkats with pumpkins

The Boo at the L.A. Zoo event takes place during the last two weekends of October each year. Guests enjoy trick-or-treating stations, pumpkin feedings with the zoo's animals, themed photo stations, and a graveyard with the bones of extinct animals. There's also a fun Owl-o-ween Station that invites visitors into the mysterious nocturnal world of owls!

Enjoying Hollywood in the Fall

Who says you have to head to the Northeast to experience fall magic? Whether you're looking for hardcore horror or kid-friendly things to do in fall near Hollywood, there's no shortage of thrills to be found. While you're in town, don't skip the chance to see how the iconic Natural History Museum Los Angeles is celebrating fall.
